Our Story

Know Us didn’t start with an event. It started with a question.

What would happen if more people had an honest, unfiltered understanding of the communities they care about—and the tools to act on that understanding?

Know Us was created in response to that question. What began in 2021 has grown into a national platform for civic storytelling, cultural connection, and clear pathways to engagement. Through immersive weekend retreats, we bring people face-to-face with the places, people, and histories that shape Black communities—past, present, and future.

Each experience is built with local partners and rooted in a shared belief: impact doesn’t come from the top down—it grows from the inside out.

Why We Do This Work

We live in a world that’s constantly moving, but not always meaningfully.

There’s no shortage of content, causes, or conversation—but what’s often missing is context, connection, and a path forward that feels real.

Know Us is about closing that gap. It’s designed to bring people into deeper understanding—not just of place, but of possibility.

We believe change starts with showing up. And that the more people feel grounded in where they are, the clearer their role becomes in what comes next.

Know Us is powered by Plant Build and Restore, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit committed to strengthening the infrastructure of Black-led institutions, community-rooted businesses, and everyday people ready to act. Together, we design experiences and build tools that help people step into deeper engagement, long-term relationships, and collaborative community power.

Where We’ve Been

  • A reimagined family reunion rooted in Black Wall Street’s legacy and future

  • Honoring an origin story, confronting truth, and envisioning repair

  • Creative power, public policy, and economic justice in motion

  • Joy, resistance, and cultural ritual in one of the most storied cities in the South

Now, we’re bringing Know Us to Atlanta—and we’re ready to build what’s next, together.
